Filing Complaints

The Shelbyville, Simpsonville and Shelby County Commission on Human Rights can help you determine if your case meets all the requirements to file a charge of discrimination. If your case meets all the requirements, your case will be referred to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights (KCHR), which is the state agency in charge of receiving, filing and investigating complaints of discrimination. Once your case is referred to KCHR, you will need to contact KCHR for any questions about your complaint. 

You also are encouraged to contact KCHR directly by phone or email (see below) to file a complaint of discrimination or you can complete the inquiry form by going to 

https://secure.kentucky.gov/formservices/KCHR/Complaint/ on the KCHR website. If you complete and submit the inquiry form online, you will need to follow up directly by phone or email with KCHR for any questions.

Please note: Your complaint is filed only when you have signed the charge of discrimination form from the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, had it notarized by a Notary Public, and returned the completed form by mail to the KCHR.
